East Palo Alto, CA (January 2025) – Local nonprofit Nuestra Casa has significantly expanded its programming to address the changing needs of East Palo Alto’s Latino community, according to a recent feature in Palo Alto Online’s Holiday Fund series.

Founded in 2002, Nuestra Casa has evolved from primarily offering ESL classes to becoming a comprehensive resource center that tackles critical issues facing local Latino residents. The organization now provides essential services including food distribution, housing assistance, environmental justice advocacy, and community health outreach.

“Our mission has always been to uplift Latino families through education and empowerment,” explained Nuestra Casa’s Executive Director in the article. “As our community’s challenges have evolved, so have our programs.”

The organization’s recent initiatives include emergency response during the pandemic, when they distributed over 1.5 million pounds of food to families in need, and their ongoing environmental justice work in the Ravenswood Business District development.

Nuestra Casa’s community-centered approach ensures programs are developed based on direct input from residents, creating culturally appropriate solutions for East Palo Alto’s diverse Latino population. Most recently, this has meant supporting community education, leadership, and advocacy on environmental justice and affordable housing.

Local residents seeking support or those interested in contributing to Nuestra Casa’s mission can visit their East Palo Alto location or participate in upcoming community events and workshops.
