Traffic crossing the Dumbarton Bridge over San Francisco Bay on a clear day, with electrical transmission towers visible in the background and rolling hills in the distance.

Learn about the SAFER Bay Project (Strategy to Advance Flood protection, Ecosystems, and Recreation along San Francisco Bay), a major flood protection initiative safeguarding over 300,000 Peninsula residents from sea level rise and climate change impacts. This multi-jurisdictional project will protect critical infrastructure like electrical substations and the Dumbarton Bridge while restoring 500 acres of tidal marsh habitat. The project is currently in planning phase with a draft Environmental Impact Report coming in August 2025. Public input opportunities are available to help shape this generational investment in climate resilience for East Palo Alto, Belle Haven, Menlo Park, and surrounding Bay Area communities.
